11.3 MT AXIS (1979m) can be ascended via the Axis Glacier and its North Ridge. Ascend the same creek as per (route 11.2), this time sidling out northwards onto the permanent ice and snow under the North Ridge. The ridge may be joined to the peak on a steep snow ramp not far from the summit. (Grade. 2+)

11.4 MT HARMAN (1900m) is an easy mixed ascent from Popes Pass as approached along its South Ridge. Browning Pass may also be reached from here by descending the broad Southwest Ridge. (Grade. 1+)

11.5 MT HARMAN (1900m): The summit may be climbed more directly from the head of the Harman Glacier up loose steep rock. (Grade. 2-)

11.6 MT POPE (1720m) is climbed easily from Popes Pass. (Grade. 1)

11.7 MT ROSAMOND (2186m) is difficult to approach. The more desirable route either climbs the South Ridge from Whitehorn Pass descending onto the Cronin Glacier from the 2059m knoll, or makes a sidle then full ascent of the Cronin Glacier from the pass. Both routes gain the steep, exposed Southeast Ridge to the summit. Whitehorn Pass is reached by sidling the slopes from Harman Pass, then ascending snowslopes to the pass. Beware of deep crevasses on all snow & ice routes in this region! (Grade. 2-)

11.8 MT MARION (2145m) is ascendable from the tarns on the Rosamond Ridge (Southwest Ridge). The tarns are reached by sidling the slopes from either MT POPE (1720m) or Popes Pass above the "un-named" stream. (Grade. 2-)

11.9 MT MARION (2145m) may be climbed from MT POPE (1720m) or Popes Pass by descending into the headwaters of the "un-named" stream and then immediately ascending the steep, loose, exposed Northwest Ridge. A descent can be made on (route 11.8). (Grade. 2)

12. OTHER ARTHUR’S PASS AREA CLIMBS

POULTER PEAKS

12.1 The peaks of the Poulter area can be climbed using easy spurs and ridges that lead off from established tramping routes. These include MT BINSER (1859m) which provides excellent views and MT ROW (1673m), MT SCARFACE (1792m), MT KOETI (1786m), MT McRAE (1750m), MT MORRISON (1720m) and finally FOREST PEAK (1470m) also giving reasonable mountaineering exercise. Mt Scarface had it’s first recorded ascent by M. Townsend, B.H. Williams and K. Readman, February 1934. (Grade. 1)
